cuffs exam practice

Q1) why was the pre-watershed scheduling of 8pm significant in terms of the representations they could offer?

the episode has suicides, mens bottoms and homo-sexuality. kids might be watching this so it is appropriate to watch with your children because it is on at 8am and it should be on at 9pm when they are asleep.  it also show that TV is getting desensitised.

Q2) how were the following areas represented in the episode:

  • ethnicity
  • gender
  • sexuality
the episode is a very good at representing live in 2010s because of ethnicity, gender and sexuality. representing ethnicity as positive and negative because of there is a black cop as a hero. the stabbing at the shop with the indian young man who got killed with a screw driver.

this is represented in 2010 because of gay marriage on the series cuffs because there are two people who is gay and in love.

how does diegetic and non diegetic sound represent

diegetic and non diegetic sound is used in wheatus ' song 'teenage dirtbag' to represent and attract the target audience (15-24 old, straight, white British/American c1-E males and females) in a number of ways.

Firstly, young males are represented because the male protagonist sings the lyric; ‘I have a dream about her, She rings my bell’’ This sexualises his teenage crush represented other youths who also fantasize about people out of their league. This fits two representation stereotype theories, Laura Mulvey’s 1975 theory that; ‘women are used as erotic objects of desire to represent males in the narrative and audience,’ (Mulvey, 1975) and Stanley Hall’s theory that youths seek excitement in sex (Hall, 1904) because a male youth, who the target audience can identify with, is lusting after a attractive teenage girl.
